Johan Theorin's The Darkest Room, translated by Marlaine Delargy, which came third on the Euro Crime blog polls, was announced tonight as the winner of the 2010 CWA International Dagger.
The judges said: ‘Four plot strands whorl around the vortex of an unexplained death. It is impossible to reduce this mysterious novel to ghost story, a police procedural or a gothic tale.’

Yaaaaaay! Thanks for the news, Karen, Just got in from Prof P's birthday meal. I am so pleased it won. I loved Hypothermia but for me, The Darkest Room just pipped it. I am so pleased for this excellent author. Well done to the judges ;-)
Even though Hypothermia was my personal favourite I still loved this book too so I am pleased and I concur with Maxine...well done to the judges.
Hurrah! Excellent surpeise.
I thought "Hypothermia" just might get it but haven't read "The Darkest Room," but now will do so.
Thank you for this great website which promotes reading European crime fiction and makes it so easy to find news of newly-published books with excellent reviews.
