Wikipedia gives the pub date for Wentworth's Danger Point/In the Balance as 1942. Well, that's Wikipedia. But I've just checked inside my own copy of the novel and it says it was first done by Hodder & Stoughton in London in 1942. Was there an earlier edition somewhere?
I think the US version, In the Balance, came out in 1941 eg http://www.abebooks.co.uk/Balance-Patricia-Wentworth-Lippincott-Company/15667351653/bd
