Thanks Karen - The Quiz was tremendous fun, and our team of RHIAN DAVIES, SELINA WALKER, ANDREW TAYLOR, MARTIN EDWARDS and a colleague from US Malice Domestic was great, all contributing. In fact the whole event was great fun - and Rhian's cake was wonderful. My Wife and Kids enjoyed the weekend, especially Rhian's company [and cake!]
Yes, the cake preparations and eating sounded delicious from the twitterings. What, no mention of alcohol, Ali?! It is all in the twitter archive, there is no escape.. ;-)
Thanks for the very kind comments all. "Our woman in Harrogate..." - LOL!
Ali's wife and daughters were so charming. I did not have much contact with his son; I think it was a girlie thing! How great it was to meet them all.
The quiz was great fun and we came a very respectable third. Winners on 79 (Mark Lawson's team again?), second on 76 and us on 75. It was the round on animals in crime fiction that let us down... Shock of the night for me was Andrew Taylor swearing. Twice!
I was pleased the cake went down well as I was trying the recipe for the first time and I've not done any baking for over two years. The last pieces went to employees of the inhouse Waterstone's bookshop and they loved it too. They asked me if I'm coming back next year... Such a relief!
So pleased to be home now though and after a few weeks of feeling a bit down on the job front, I am now perked up again and ready for battle. Harrogate is good therapy!
Lots of news to come, including some on Swedish translations in the pipeline for the UK, tipped off by a former publisher in Swedennow back in journalism - as long as she remembers to email me the details. But first, I will be preparing an article tomorrow for the site at which I won my tickets. (And hopefully also receiving some pics from someone soon who took some great ones at Harry.)
Yes I swore! But passions run high in steamy Harrogate, especially during the quiz. Good to see you all, though I felt an inadequate member of such a crack team.

Sorry to correct you - but I believe Harrogate 2010 Chair is Stuart McBride / while Dreda is 2011 - but this is not confirmed

It sounds as if Rhian, and her cake, were the stars of Harrogate.

And one day I shall be on the winning quiz team said Alice...
