So what are you thoughts on the US (LHS) and UK (RHS) covers? Which would entice you to pick the book up if you were not familiar with Stuart Neville?
If you have read it, how does the cover match the story?

After reading The Twelve the other week, I have to say I prefer the 'red' one. Not sure why. Maybe the 'blue' one looks a bit too down.
ReplyDeleteI personally would choose the blue cover, if I knew nothing about the book,because to me the red/firey cover says "terrorist/thriller/action/shooting" (boring) and the blue cover says "moody,puzzling, dark" (interesting).
ReplyDeleteHowever as I have read the first book in this series I would not choose either (or any!) cover as I won't be reading any more of the series, I suspect. In retrospect, I regret writing such a generous review of "12" (aka The Ghosts of Belfast).
To be honest they both appear not to have much to do with the title and neither of them really appeal - the UK one would be slightly more likely to grab my attention but it would have to be a slow day in the bookstore queue :)
ReplyDeleteI'll rather go for the UK cover just because of the colour. Have not read it, at least yet.
ReplyDeletethe one with the picture of the fire, which I think is the US one. captures some of the themes of the book, where as UK one feels a bit more identikit.

Sorry guys I had them labelled wrongly. Blue=US, Red=UK.
ReplyDeleteThe red is more eye-catching but it does scream thriller eg Child, Hilton etc
I like the blue one, as it depicts a sinister and ominous mood. The red one has too much on it, is too busy.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as I've read very good and critical reviews of Neville's first book, written by sharp analysts, I won't be reading either book.

ReplyDeleteThe blue american cover seems to at least reference the title but may have been deisgned by someone that didn't get any further than that into the novel. Having read the first book (but not the second yet) the UK cover seems to draw upon the lead character. I would choose the UK mainly based on colour.
