soon they'll have to give vargas her own category, like they did for translated novels a few years ago when they started winning too much...
and, whatever happened to the Duncan lawrie business? and whatever happened to the gold dagger shortlists being announced on the night? i'm quite surprised no one around seems to have questioned why the cwa are p***ing around so much
I give up, it seems some MP was on the judging panel. Did these people read the books? Adamsberg is a great creation but this was just nowhere near as good a book as the Theorin, Larsson and Alvtegen.
I dread to think what the Gold Dagger shortlist will include.
CWA has lost sponsorship and is dragging out the awards over a long period of time.... and they charge a lot to be a member. Maybe we should set up our own Euro Crime award for next year, and have a big party to celebrate it! (Vargas hasn't a new one out has she ? ;-) )
I'm very pleased for Colin Cotterill, love his books.
I liked all the books on the Int shortlist, by the way, though this would not have been the one I picked. I prefer books set in the real world, which Vargas's aren't - though they are refreshing, you do have to suspend belief while you read them which to my mind makes them not true "crime fiction" by definition, as things happen by magic and so on.

There's some deal with Cactus tv for the other categories apparently.

Oh wow, I loved The Chalk Circle Man! I voted for it in both your polls. It's the only book by her I've read but I thought it was brilliant.
