Whispers of the Dead - Cover Opinions

This week's selection for "cover opinions" is the US and UK covers for Simon Beckett's Whispers of the Dead.

So what are you thoughts on the US (LHS) and UK (RHS) covers? Which would entice you to pick the book up if you were not familiar with Simon Beckett?

If you have read it, how well does the cover match the story?

Here is Michelle Peckham's Euro Crime review of Whispers of the Dead.

You can read an extract from Chapter 1 on the Barnes and Noble website.

Marginally the dark cover. The white one with the dragonfly looks more like a serious book so if I were worried about looking as though I like to read intellectual things all the time, I would prefer that. But I'm a shameless fan of thrillers so I'd go for the dark one (right) which looks more threatening.

Yes, the right side cover from the British edition is much better, looks more artistic and creative.

The left-hand U.S. cover looks gaudy and not interesting.

The British cover achieves its goal of enticing thriller readers; it looks menacing.

Karen - I like the RH cover better. It suits the story. However, I am biased as that's the cover on the edition I have...

Without having read the novel, the darker one is much more appealing than the one with the insect.

I´d definitely go for the UK cover. I wouldn´t expect the US one to be exciting.
